If you had the chance,
Would you live in Today or Tomorrow?
Today holding presence
Holding emotions
Holding problems needing fixing.
Tomorrow holding future,
Holding hope,
Holding ideas unreachable.
Who’s to say which is better or worse?
Today, I struggle.
Tomorrow, I dream.
Today, there is continuity.
Tomorrow, endless possibilities.
Today offers conflicting emotions.
Tomorrow offers dreams evermore.
I guess that’s what it comes down to?
Deciding whether to live in reality or fiction.
Truth or dreams.
Tomorrow, where the dreamers become lost.
In the cycle of idealizing her beauty,
Reality screaming that eyes have never seen
And never will behold.
I will never greet Tomorrow’s sun-glazed,
Morning sky with a smile and welcome her.
No, that alone is reserved for Today.
I will never bid Tomorrow adieu,
Just to meet her again in a few hours.
No, she is unattainable.
Forever lost in the sea of dreams.
In the endless expanse of hope.
In which case, hope becomes a prison
Holding Tomorrow hostage
A place to serve her life sentence.
The dreamers meet her there and choose to stay.
Choosing to believe that one day
she will break free by the strength of their faith.
And so, they too are prisoners to hope.
Addicted to her fog, distorting Today.
That’s not to say that Today is the correct choice.
Today is full of every living thing.
Today is overwhelmed by struggles
and happiness
and comfort
and sadness
and anger
and peace
and productivity
and choices
and love
and pain.
Today is where injuries occur,
both physical and emotional.
Today is where love encompasses.
Today, is where decisions are made
Where consequences are lived out.
Today only ends to begin again.
Stuck in his constant torture and pleasure,
never sure which is which.
Or maybe at this point they’ve melded together.
His followers forever bound to the cycle
Presence becoming the fire
They live and die within.
The people wholly dependent on
Today’s sea of waves
To rock them into contentedness
Not realizing they are drowning in survival.
Today is forever pining
For his great love,
Tomorrow,
Only to be disheartened
Time and time again.
She, stuck in the black hole of hope.
He, stuck in the fire and waves of presence.
Neither free from the slavery that binds them.
Both bring lost souls along to keep them company.
Today, reality wins.
Tomorrow, dreams reign.
The epitome of the divided soul.
And so, maybe the key to unlock the chains
Is not the choice.
Perhaps the breaking is
The acknowledgement of both.
In the space we hold for Today
To encounter Tomorrow
To live happily ever after.
In the time divide
where reality and dreams collide
To form a beautiful collage of color.
So dreamers keep dreaming,
Survivors keep surviving,
But don’t ever forget the other
Because those found in between
Are truly alive.
